Sept. 5, 2011

University of South Carolina senior offensive right tackle Rokevious Watkins has been selected as the Southeastern Conference’s Offensive Lineman of the Week, it was announced by the league office today.

Watkins, a 6-4, 340-pounder from Fairburn, Ga., started at right tackle for the first time in his career after playing guard in 2010. He helped the Gamecock offense generate 351 yards of total offense in a 56-37 win over East Carolina. The senior lineman graded out at 87 percent, with eight knockdowns, four pancakes, no sacks and no quarterback pressures allowed. Carolina had just one lost yardage play in the contest.

In other awards announced on Monday, Antonio Allen and Ace Sanders received honorable mention accolades for their Saturday night performances from the College Football Performance Awards, while Allen and Marcus Lattimore were selected by CollegeSportsMadness.com as the SEC Defensive and Offensive Players of the Week, respectively.

The Gamecocks are back on the practice fields tonight at 6:30 p.m. as they begin preparation for Saturday’s SEC opener at Georgia. Game time is set for 4:30 p.m. and the contest will be televised nationally on ESPN with Sean McDonough, Matt Millen and Heather Cox describing the action.
