COLUMBIA, S.C. – For the second time in her career, former Gamecock standout Ashton Payne claimed an Amateur Softball Association of America championship with her Virginia Legends club out of Hampton, Va.
Teaming up with former All-Americans like Stacey Nelson and Ashley Brignac, Payne and the Legends went undefeated in the Women’s 23-Under Eastern tournament to claim the crown. Payne hit .333 in the four games, scoring six times and adding a double.
Payne first won the title with the Legends in 2008. She is one of two Gamecocks in history to earn multiple Academic All-America plaques, taking home the honors from the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) in 2008 and 2009.
