COLUMBIA, S.C. — The South Carolina swimming and diving team was given a day off from its hectic winter practice schedule on Wednesday to participate in a community service day.

Nearly 60 members of the team split into groups and scattered throughout Columbia to lend a hand at the Ronald McDonald House, Harvest Hope Food Bank, the American Red Cross, a local animal shelter and the city library.

Student-athletes spent time with parents of the children at the Ronald McDonald house and played games with them. At Harvest Hope Food Bank, they packed boxes and loaded the boxes onto trucks. They wrote thank you notes to blood donors for the American Red Cross and performed various jobs at the animal shelter and city library.
