Head Coach Ray Tanner

On Matt Price
He battled for us. I’m not disappointed in Matt Price, it part of baseball. We had some opportunities, they had some opportunities. When they got their fifth run that was kind of a freakish play there where we were kind of out of the inning but I guess we made an errant throw over there. Joey Pankake tried to stay on the bag and the throw was a bit wide, and I think LB Dantzler might have blocked the vision. That’s part of baseball though, things happen. I just thought the difference in the game was really what Steckenrider did for Tennessee out of the bullpen. He just stuffed us. He shut it down. He shut our offense down and gave them a chance to keep plugging away.

On leaving runners on and getting struck out 13 times…
That’s disappointing. Not to take anything away from Tennessee, but 13 strikeouts is excessive, we had to do a better job of jumping that for sure. You don’t deserve to win when you have 13 times. Give Tennessee’s pitchers credit, they did a great job.

On Tennessee Pitcher, Zack Godley…
I thought he pitched well. I thought he had a good outing. He made some good pitches. He threw some good change ups, some breaking balls, and he stuck some fastballs on the inner half. He gave them a quality start. Michael Roth gave us a good start. Like I said what I thought was a big key tonight was what Steckenrider was able to do out of the bullpen.

On coming back tomorrow…
You have to keep grinding it out. We are not exactly where we want to be, and the only way to get there is you have to make it happen. Yes, it is disappointing to lose, but you have to show up tomorrow and be ready to go. You have to do your very best to win the series at home.

On base running errors…
It’s crucial for use because we don’t score that many runs. It’s part of baseball too. You don’t want it to happened, but it’s magnified a little bit with us because we just don score that many runs. It’s just one of those things.

On Sean Sullivan and Tanner English
Sean Sullivan thought that Chase Vergason was scoring and he was tying to get to third. Coach Holbrook held him up because he thought the right fielder came at the ball pretty well and has a pretty good arm, so he made the decision to hold Vergason. Sullivan thought that he was scoring. He shouldn’t have gone obviously. Tanner English tweaked his hamstring on the first ball that he broke back on and then he tried to come get it. I don’t know how serious it is.

Matt Price
On his throw to 3rd…
I tired to wait for one of the guys to get back to the bag. I tried to lead him in there, but it got away from me. Joey Pankake tried to make a play on it, but it tipped his glove and the run scored.

On play to 3rd being the difference…
It’s very frustrating, but at the same time that’s the way baseball happens sometimes. For me as a closer you have to flush it and be ready to go tomorrow.

On bouncing back from this loss…
Its going to be tough but we have a great group of guys that are going to fright and battle every pitch so we are going to go out there and give it our best every game.

Christian Walker
On letting this game get away…
It’s pretty disappointing. That’s not us. That’s not they way we play. We left too many guys on base, but you’re going to have days like this. You have to work through it.

On not being able to get the win…
These games are huge. You win a game like that and you’ve got the momentum. That’s big game Friday night and offensively you would like to give your pitchers more support than one run or two runs. Anytime in the game, early or late, whenever they come in. But like I said, that’s not us. We should have scored a couple more runs. We had a couple blunders here and there, but that’s baseball.

On his last at bat…
He’s pretty good, I’ll give him credit. His fastball was pretty firm enough to where something off-speed will keep you off balance just enough. I was just trying to make something happened. I got a lot in front of that fastball and that’s what I was looking for. It was the pitch to hit and it just didn’t execute.

On coming back tomorrow…
It’s never good losing game one of the series, but we are going to flip it and use it as some motivation. We are excited to get back out there tomorrow and show everybody how we can really play.
