The ninth-ranked University of South Carolina football squad worked out in full pads Tuesday afternoon at the Bluff Road practice fields on a warm and humid day in Columbia.
The Gamecocks (1-0, 1-0 SEC) are preparing for Saturday’s 12:21 p.m. non-conference home opener against East Carolina (1-0, 0-0 C-USA). The SEC Network will carry the contest with Dave Neal, Andre Ware and Cara Capuano describing the action.
Senior safety D.J. Swearinger said he felt like he played ok against Vanderbilt, but is looking for more. “I played an all right game. I feel like I should have had an interception early in the game when the ball went over my head, but other than that I had some nice plays but I’m looking to have a whole lot better game.”
There has been some talk about a fourth-down play late in the game where Swearinger defended a pass that fell incomplete, ending Vandy’s chances. “A lot of people say pass interference, but as a DB, we have to get our job done,” said Swearinger. “I had to do what I had to do and I think it was a great play.”
The Gamecocks will return to the practice fields on Wednesday afternoon.
