The eighth-ranked University of South Carolina football team returned to the practice fields Tuesday afternoon. The squad worked out in full pads on a beautiful September day in Columbia. The Gamecocks (2-0) are preparing for Saturday’s non-conference tilt with UAB (0-1). Game time is set for 7:08 p.m. at Williams-Brice Stadium. Tickets priced at $35 each are still available for the contest.
Defensive line coach Brad Lawing said that UAB, under new head coach Garrick McGee, has a very similar offense to what the team saw at Arkansas last season. “In our breakdown, we took their game against Troy game, then we added a lot of the Arkansas games. They have a similar scheme.”
Defensive end Jadeveon Clowney did not practice for the second straight day after suffering a rib contusion in Saturday’s win over East Carolina. Lawing said he anticipates Clowney will be able to practice on Wednesday.
Special teams coach Joe Robinson has high hopes for Tyler Hull as the Gamecocks’ punter. “He’s a long way from his full potential. He has a lot of upside. He’s getting better every week.”
The Gamecocks will return to the practice fields on Wednesday at 4:15 p.m.
