UPDATED: The South Carolina Gamecocks are ranked seventh in the initial BCS Standings, released Sunday night. Alabama is the No. 1 team, followed by Florida, Oregon, Kansas State and Notre Dame. LSU is just ahead of South Carolina and the top one-loss team. Oregon State, Oklahoma and Southern California round out the top 10.
The University of South Carolina remained ranked in the Top 10 in both national polls released today. The Gamecocks (6-1, 4-1 SEC) are ranked ninth in this week’s Associated Press poll and eighth in the USA Today/Coaches’ poll.
The Gamecocks saw their school-record 10-game winning streak come to an end Saturday night in a 23-21 setback at LSU. The Tigers (6-1, 2-1 SEC) are ranked sixth in both polls this week.
The Gamecocks have been ranked among the nation’s Top-10 teams according to the Associated Press in 10-straight polls dating back to last season. That extends their school record. The previous mark was seven, set during the 1984 campaign.
Alabama (6-0) received every first place vote in both polls. They are followed by Oregon (6-0) in both polls.
Carolina will travel to Gainesville this week to take on the Florida Gators (6-0, 5-0 SEC). Florida is ranked third in the AP poll and fourth in the Coaches’ poll. It will be the third-straight Top-10 opponent for the Gamecocks. The game will be televised nationally on CBS at 3:30 p.m. ET with Verne Lundquist and Gary Danielson in the booth and Tracy Wolfson on the sidelines.
The first BCS Standings will be announced tonight.
