COACH SPURRIER POST-PRACTICE COMMENTS
October 24, 2012

The University of South Carolina football squad practiced Wednesday afternoon at the Bluff Road “Proving Grounds”.

The No. 17/16 Gamecocks (6-2, 4-2 SEC) will host the Tennessee Volunteers (3-4, 0-4 SEC) on Saturday, October 27. Game time is set for Noon ET. The game will be televised nationally on ESPN with Dave Pasch and Brian Griese in the booth and Jenn Brown working the sidelines.

“We had a pretty good practice today,” said head coach Steve Spurrier following the workout. “Our guys know we’re at home, we know the fans are going to be ready and we’re going to be ready to play the best we can this week. We haven’t played very well lately but we’re looking forward to the opportunity here against Tennessee.”

Offensive line coach Shawn Elliott said that tackle Corey Robinson and guard A.J. Cann would man the left side of the offensive line again this week. They had been the starters, but were replaced in last week’s starting lineup by Mike Matulis and Kyle Harris. “Mike Matulis is nursing a shoulder injury right now,” noted Elliott. “So I don’t know if he’ll be ready to play or not. It’s not the same shoulder (that was injured previously). He came back from a shoulder a year ago and hurt his other shoulder and now he has two bum shoulders. It’s a tough situation for a young man who could be a really good football player. I hate it for him.

“I think we’re a good football team, we’re just not playing very well right now,” added Elliott. “Hopefully we can correct some things in practice. We’ll see if we can right the ship and get back on course.”

The Gamecocks will return to the practice fields on Thursday.
