The No. 12/11 South Carolina Gamecocks (7-2, 5-2 SEC) worked out Thursday afternoon at the Bluff Road practice fields.

The Gamecocks return to action on Saturday when they host the Arkansas Razorbacks (4-5, 2-3 SEC) in a noon start at Williams-Brice Stadium. The game will be televised nationally on CBS with Tim Brando and Steve Beuerlein in the booth and Marty Snider working the sidelines.

Head coach Steve Spurrier wanted to remind the fans that they are needed for Saturday’s game. “We need to treat Arkansas like it’s Georgia, Tennessee or Clemson. This team has beaten us more than all of those teams have beaten us in the last three years combined. So we need to get after Arkansas. This is a huge game for us. I think our guys are ready to play,” added Coach Spurrier.

Defensive coordinator Lorenzo Ward indicated that the starters in the secondary would be based on the personnel that Arkansas puts on the field. “We’re going to look to match up their personnel,” said Ward. “We’ve got to play tighter coverages and not show the quarterback what we’re doing.”

On the injury front, backup spur Sharrod Golightly will not play due to a hamstring injury. Cornerback Jimmy Legree is healthy, according to Ward, while cornerback Akeem Auguste “is probably about 80-85 percent,” noted Ward.

The Gamecocks will have their regular walk-thru on Friday afternoon.
