COLUMBIA, S.C. –
The University of South Carolina men’s and women’s soccer team were announced as recipients of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Team Academic Award for the 2011-12 academic year.
A total of 717 college soccer teams (220 men, 497 women) posted a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher to earn the award. A sum of 148 schools, including the University of South Carolina, had both their men’s and women’s programs recognized with the honor. The men’s team was recognized as tying for the fifth-highest GPA in the country while the women’s team stands tied for 30th in their Division I listing.
Both of the Gamecock programs boast the highest GPA’s in their respective conferences, and the university is one of nine in the country to have their men’s team ranked in the top 25 and their women’s program in the top 40.
