The University of South Carolina football team, fresh off a 27-17 win over in-state rival Clemson, moved up two notches in both national polls released Sunday afternoon.
The Gamecocks (10-2, 6-2 SEC) are ranked 11th in this week’s Associated Press poll, and 10th in this week’s USA Today/ESPN Coaches’ poll. The Gamecocks were 13th and 12th in the two polls, respectively, last week.
The Gamecocks also climbed two spots in the Bowl Championship Series (BCS) Standings released Sunday night. The Gamecocks are 10th in that ranking, one of six SEC teams in the top 10.
Carolina has posted double-digits in wins for the second-straight season and for just the third time in school history. They will have an opportunity to match the school record for wins in a season at 11 when they play in a bowl game, against an opponent and at a site to be determined.
The Gamecocks only two losses this season came on the road at LSU and at Florida. The Tigers are currently 10-2 and ranked ninth in the AP poll, while the Gators are 11-1 and ranked fifth by the AP.
Notre Dame (12-0) holds the top spot in both polls, followed by Alabama (11-1) and Georgia (11-1). The Bulldogs only loss this season was a 35-7 rout at the hands of the Gamecocks.
