COLUMBIA, S.C. — University of South Carolina sophomore defensive end Jadeveon Clowney has been named AgSouth Athlete of the Week for his efforts in Carolina’s win over Clemson.
Clowney, a 6-6, 256-pounder from Rock Hill, S.C., set the school record for sacks in a game with 4.5 and broke the school record for sacks in a season with 13.0 in the Gamecocks’ 27-17 win at Clemson. The sack total was also a Clemson Memorial Stadium record, breaking the previous mark held by Notre Dame’s Ross Browner (1977) and Virginia Tech’s Bruce Smith (1984). Clowney totaled seven tackles, including six solo stops, and was also credited with a quarterback pressure. The Gamecocks held Clemson to 17 points and 328 yards, well below their season averages of 44.6 points and 535.6 yards per game.
