COLUMBIA, S.C. — The South Carolina men’s swimming and diving team is ranked No. 13 in the latest CollegeSwimming.com Endless Pools Top 25.
The Gamecocks have 9.7 performance points in the poll, which reflects the team’s top performances in meets from Nov. 5-25. During that span, the Gamecocks defeated College of Charleston and finish second at the Virginia Tech Invitational. At the invitational, South Carolina posted some of the nation’s fastest times with junior Michael Flach leading the way. Flach, who earned National Swimmer of the Week honors for his performance, turned in the top 200 freestyle time (1:35.86) and the top 200 butterfly time (1:45.51) in the country.
“I’m happy with where our men sit in the poll,” South Carolina head coach McGee Moody said. “I think this reflects the hard work that they have put in. It shows the direction that our program is going. Now the goal is to continue to move up the rest of the season, and I think our guys are ready to do that.”
The points for the Endless Pools Top 25 are calculated using the average percentile rank of each team’s top twenty-seven swims in each meet. The Top 25 are ranked according on the basis of each team’s highest-scoring meet within the previous three weeks.
The Gamecocks return to action on Jan. 12 in a road dual meet at Duke. The meet is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. in Durham, N.C.
