The University of South Carolina placed three players on the Southeastern Conference All-Freshman squad as selected by the 14 head football coaches, the league office announced today.
Earning spots on the squad were tight end Jerell Adams, offensive tackle Brandon Shell and defensive back T.J. Gurley.
Adams, a 6-5, 224-pound true freshman from Pinewood, S.C. caught four passes for 90 yards, an average of 22.5 yards per reception, with one touchdown in eight games. His touchdown reception came from 29 yards out in the win over Arkansas.
Shell, a 6-6, 331-pound redshirt freshman from Goose Creek, S.C. started nine games during the season, including the final eight at right tackle. He was also the starting left tackle in the season opener at Vanderbilt.
Gurley, a 5-10, 183-pound true freshman from Cairo, Ga., played in eight games including a pair of starts (Missouri and Florida) before suffering a season-ending knee injury at Florida. He logged 13 tackles, including eight solo stops.
