Over 110 former South Carolina football players returned to the Proving Grounds Tuesday afternoon to watch the current Gamecock squad’s spring practice and attend a special dinner in The Zone at Williams-Brice Stadium. Former Carolina quarterback and now radio play-by-play caller Todd Ellis was the MC for the night, with speakers including Athletics Director Ray Tanner, Defensive Coordinator Lorenzo Ward, Head Coach Steve Spurrier, Assistant Gamecock Club Director Jay Brown, Vice President of the Lettermen’s Association Ryan Brewer, and Special Assistant to Development Clyde Wrenn, who led organizing the event. The speakers shared anecdotes and jokes while highlighting the importance of former players remaining involved with the program.
“This is your university,” Tanner emphasized.
The evening is part of a continuing effort to welcome back former student-athletes to campus, including the annual all-sports reunion and luncheons earlier this year for former Gamecock quarterbacks and NFL Gamecocks.
