KAZAN, Russia — South Carolina senior Michael Flach claimed sixth place in the 200-meter butterfly final on Saturday for Team USA at the 2013 World University Games.
Flach touched the wall in 1:58.90, coming up 1.54 seconds short of getting on the medal stand. Hungary’s Bence Biczo won gold with a time of 1:55.32.
A native of Annandale, Va., Flach had a solid run to the final, posting the second fastest time of the preliminaries (1:58.94) on Friday morning and then swimming a 1:58.77 in the semifinals to qualify for the final.
The 200 butterfly wraps up Flach’s week at the World University Games. Gamecock head coach McGee Moody will continue to serve as an assistant coach for the U.S. men’s team through Wednesday.
