The University of South Carolina football team is ranked sixth in both national polls after the first week of the season, it was announced today. The Gamecocks remained steady in the Associated Press poll and moved up one spot in the USA Today Coaches poll.

The Gamecocks have been ranked among the AP top 25 for 49 consecutive polls, tying Stanford for the fifth-longest streak in the country, behind Alabama, LSU, Oregon and Oklahoma.

Alabama remained atop both polls, while Oregon and Ohio State are flip-flopped between the two polls for the No. 2 and 3 positions. Clemson and Stanford are also flip-flopped in the polls for the No. 4 and 5 slots, just ahead of the Gamecocks.

Georgia, who was ranked fifth in both polls before a 38-35 loss at Clemson, dropped to No. 11 in the AP poll and to No. 12 in the USA Today poll. They are the highest ranked one-loss team.

The Gamecocks will travel to Athens on Saturday to face the Bulldogs. Carolina has won the last three games in the series, including a 35-7 rout in Columbia last season. Saturday’s contest is set for a 4:30 p.m. ET kick with Brad Nessler, Todd Blackledge and Holly Rowe working the contest for the ESPN broadcast.
