The University of South Carolina football team worked out at the Bluff Road practice fields Tuesday afternoon. The No. 13/14 Gamecocks (1-1, 0-1 SEC) are preparing for Saturday’s SEC Eastern Division showdown with the Vanderbilt Commodores (1-1, 0-1 SEC). Saturday’s game is set for 7 p.m. ET and will be televised nationally on ESPN with Brad Nessler, Todd Blackledge and Holly Rowe as the broadcast team.

Secondary coach Grady Brown knows that his troops need to rebound this week after a tough outing at Georgia. “It was really poor,” said Brown of the performance in the 41-30 setback. “We did not perform well as a group. I have to do a better job as a coach of preparing my guys to go out and perform at a high level on Saturday. If they did not perform well it means I did not do a good enough job as a coach preparing them to play. We’ll have to show up in the meeting rooms this week ready to learn, ready to pick up on different tendencies and be in a position to go out and execute the game plan. I didn’t do a good job of making sure my guys understood the game plan,” continued Brown. “Therefore it showed in the way we played on Saturday. But we’ll be ready this weekend.”

Cornerback Victor Hampton has an injured right ankle and did not practice on Tuesday. “He practiced yesterday and practiced well, so I would hope he will be ready to play this weekend,” said Brown. “We’ll always look to get the four best players on the field at the same time in the secondary so hopefully we’ll get everybody healthy this weekend. The best players will play on Saturday.”

The Gamecocks are scheduled to practice again on Wednesday afternoon.
