The University of South Carolina football squad slipped one spot in the Associated Press poll but remained steady in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches poll announced today.
The Gamecocks (4-1, 2-1 SEC) are ranked 14th in this week’s A.P. poll, down one spot from No. 13 a week ago. They were leapfrogged by Miami (Fla.) (5-0). The Gamecocks remained No. 12 in the coaches’ poll after holding off Kentucky by a 35-28 score Saturday night. It was the Gamecocks’ 14th-straight home win, one shy of the school record.
Defending national champion Alabama (5-0) continues to lead both polls, followed by Oregon (5-0).
The Gamecocks will be tested on the road each of the next three weeks, beginning with a 12:21 p.m. ET kick on Saturday, October 12, at Arkansas (3-3, 0-2 SEC). Carolina will also travel to Tennessee (Oct. 19) and Missouri (Oct. 26) before returning home to face Mississippi State on November 2.
The Gamecocks have been ranked by the Associated Press for a school record 54 consecutive polls, tying for the fifth-longest current streak in the country.
