University of South Carolina sophomore running back Mike Davis has been selected to Phil Steele’s third-team Midseason All-American squad, it was announced today.

Davis, a 5-9, 215-pounder from Lithonia, Ga., leads the SEC in rushing halfway through the season. The sophomore back is averaging 123.7 yards per game on the ground, the nation’s 10th-best mark. Davis is second in the league in all-purpose yards (154.5) and is tied for first in scoring (9.0). He has five 100-yard rushing games in six outings this season, with three runs of over 50 yards.

Davis is joined by Arizona’s Ka’Deem Carey as the running back tandem on the third team unit. First team running back honors went to Wisconsin’s Melvin Gordon and Washington’s Bishop Sankey. Andre Williams of Boston College and Lache Seastruck of Baylor were selected as the second-team running backs.

Earlier this week, Davis and junior offensive guard A.J. Cann were midseason first-team All-SEC selections. Junior defensive tackle Kelcy Quarles was a second-team pick, while junior defensive end Jadeveon Clowney garnered third-team honors, according to Steele.
