Dec. 1, 2013

The University of South Carolina football team moved up two spots in the two major polls released Sunday afternoon.

The Gamecocks (10-2, 6-2 SEC) are the No. 8 team in the country, according to the Associated Press, and tied with Baylor as the No. 7 team in the land in the latest ESPN/USA Today Coaches poll. The Gamecocks are coming off a 31-17 win over Clemson (10-2). It was Carolina’s fifth-straight win over its in-state rival and was the Gamecocks second win over a top-10 team this season.

The Gamecocks also climbed two spots to No. 8 in the BCS Standings released Sunday night.

The Gamecocks have been ranked for a school record 62 consecutive weeks in the A.P. Top-25, tying for the fifth longest streak in the nation with Stanford, behind only Alabama, LSU, Oregon and Oklahoma.

The top six teams are the same in both polls. Florida State (12-0) and Ohio State (12-0) sit atop the polls, ahead of three SEC one-loss teams, Auburn, Alabama and Missouri. Auburn and Missouri will play Saturday for the SEC Championship. Oklahoma State is ranked sixth in both polls.
