COLUMBIA, S.C. – In a midweek meet at the USC Indoor Complex on Wednesday night, South Carolina posted six top-five finishes in 10 events.

In the men’s 55-meter hurdles, sophomore Jermaine Collier ran a personal best 7.45 in the prelims to qualify for the finals in the top spot. Despite the top qualifying spot, Collier did not run in the finals. His teammate, freshman Jussi Kanervo, ran a personal best 7.51 in the prelims, and took fourth place in the finals with a time of 7.56.

Freshman David Yang captured a win in his first collegiate race, clocking in at 2:07.97 to take the top spot in the 800-meter run.

Junior James Adams posted a season-best leap of 21’4″ ¾ (6.52m) in the long jump to tally his first top-five finish of the season.

Jesse Wideman collected the first top-five finish of his collegiate career. The freshman cleared a collegiate-best bar of 12’11” ½ in the men’s high jump for a second-place finish.

In the women’s shot put, sophomore Jemekia Wilson recorded a mark of 34’5″ ½ (10.50m) for a fourth-place finish.

Freshman Guy McCarter completed his first collegiate race, clocking in at 9:21.62 in the 3,000-meter run for second place.

This weekend, the Gamecocks split with one group heading west for the Cherry & Silver Invitational at the site of the 2014 NCAA Indoor Championships in Albuquerque, N.M., and the others set to return to Blacksburg, Va., for the Hokie Invitational.
