MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – South Carolina senior Amanda Rutqvist swam her first of two events at the 2014 NCAA Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships today at the Minnesota Aquatic Center, finishing 48th in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:02.51.
“Amanda had a solid swim this morning,” South Carolina head coach McGee Moody said. “It wasn’t her best, but we know what she needs to do for her primary event tomorrow. She feels pretty good so we are confident she will be ready to go.”
A native of Gothenburg, Sweden, Rutqvist will close out the championships on Saturday with her best event, the 200 breaststroke. Rutqvist is a two-time All-American in the event as she finished fifth in 2011 with a school-record time of 2:07.86 and placed 11th at the 2012 championships. She enters this year’s preliminary as the No. 27 seed with a time of 2:10.07.
Saturday’s preliminaries are scheduled to begin at 12 p.m., ET. Live results/video will be available here .
