May 5, 2014
COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina senior shortstop Codee Yeske captured the final Southeastern Conference Player of the Week honor of 2014 after helping the Gamecocks win the series over No. 20/20 Auburn and claim the eighth seed in the upcoming SEC Softball Tournament at Carolina Softball Stadium at Beckham Field.
Yeske, a Lexington, S.C., native, had a hit and an RBI in all three games, hitting .556 on the weekend. Her first hit tied the Sunday game, while she scored the eventual game-winning run after starting the fifth with a single. She tripled in Saturday’s game, driving in the final run in the 7-4 win. She also went 2-for-3 in Friday’s contest with her run-scoring hit on Friday giving the Gamecocks the lead.
Claiming her first SEC Player of the Week award, Yeske won the Big South Player of the Week award in the final week of the 2011 season. She’s the second Gamecock to win the award this year, joining Ashlyn Masters’ win earlier in the season. That joins the 2002, 2004 and 2005 seasons as years South Carolina had two players of the week.
Georgia’s Chelsea Wilkinson took the SEC Pitcher of the Week award, while Alabama’s Sydney Littlejohn earned the SEC Freshman of the Week accolade.
South Carolina takes on Auburn in the first round of the SEC Softball Tournament on Wed., at 6:30 p.m. at Carolina Softball Stadium at Beckham Field.
