South Carolina Football Earns APR Recognition

May 7, 2014

South Carolina Football is one of 13 squads receiving public recognition for their latest multi-year APR score in the Football Bowl Subdivision, it was announced today.

Each year, the NCAA honors selected Division I sports teams by publicly recognizing their latest multi-year NCAA Division I Academic Progress Rate (APR). This announcement is part of the overall Division I academic reform effort and is intended to highlight teams that demonstrate a commitment to academic progress and retention of student-athletes by achieving the top APRs within their respective sports. Specifically, these teams posted multi-year APRs in the top 10 percent of all squads in each sport.

“The expectation of graduation is defined during recruitment and throughout the student-athletes collegiate career,” said Maria Hickman, Associate Athletics Director – Academics. “The APR rate for football is a reflection of the hard work and dedication from the student-athletes and support from the academic staff and coaches.”

The APR provides a real-time look at a team’s academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete on scholarship. The APR accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation and provides a measure of each team’s academic performance.

Other football programs joining South Carolina with the distinction this year are Boise State, Boston College, Clemson, Duke, Georgia Tech, Northwestern, Rutgers, Stanford, Missouri, Nebraska, Wisconsin and Utah State.

The NCAA Division I 2012-13 APR reports will be released on Wednesday, May 14.
