ATHENS, Ga. – In its final regular season meet of the 2014 outdoor season, South Carolina captured seven wins from two relays and five individuals at Saturday’s Georgia Invitational in Athens, Ga.

Chris Royster and Ahtyana Johnson delivered a South Carolina sweep of the men’s and women’s 100-meter dashes. It was the third win of the season for each Gamecock with Royster crossing in 10.36 and Johnson in a personal record 11.50.

The pair also contributed to wins in the 4×100-meter relays. On the men’s side, Brandon Sanders, Royster, Dondre Echols and Eric Winfrey posted a 40.28. The women employed a team of Tyler Brockington, Tamera Harris, Briana Haith and Johnson for their winning time of 45.27.

Harris also collected an individual win in the 400-meter hurdles, clocking in at 59.47 to notch her second win of the year.

In the distance races, Mary Reiser took the 3,000-meter run (10:07.52) and Sarah Falta took first place in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:44.17.

Marisa Bellamy finished second in the women’s 400-meter dash, clocking in at a collegiate best 54.80. Aalayah Faulcon was just behind in third place with a time of 55.46.

Winfrey and Echols, contributors to the men’s 4×1 win, also posted top-three finishes in their individual events. Winfrey was third in the 200-meter dash (21.24) and Echols took third in the 110-meter hurdles (14.09).

In the women’s javelin, Olivia Hassler set a new season best to take third overall and second amongst collegians with a heave of 133’2″ (40.59m). Joshua Suttmeier hit his best mark of the season in the men’s event, recording a toss of 210’6″ (64.17m).

Alexis Murphy continued her strong long jump season, taking third with a leap of 19’6 ¼” (5.95m).

The Gamecocks travel to Lexington, Ky., for the SEC Outdoor Championships at the University of Kentucky next. Competition begins on Thurs., May 15 and runs through Sun., May 18.
