Six Gamecocks Earn Spots on Athlon's Preseason All-SEC Squads

Six University of South Carolina football players have earned spots on Athlon’s preseason All-SEC teams, it was announced today.
Senior offensive guard A.J. Cann was the lone Gamecock to garner a spot on Athlon’s first-team unit. Cann, a 6-4, 311-pounder from Bamberg, S.C., owns a team-high 38 starts over the past three seasons and served as a team captain in 2013.
Mike Davis, a 5-9, 223-pound junior running back from Atlanta, and Skai Moore, a 6-2, 213-pound sophomore linebacker from Cooper City, Fla., were named to Athlon’s second-team All-SEC squad. Davis was a second-team All-SEC pick last season after rushing 203 times for 1,183 yards (the fourth-highest single-season total in school history), with 11 touchdowns. Moore was a second-team Freshman All-American last year after leading the team with 56 tackles, to go along with a team-high four interceptions.
One of the biggest Gamecocks, senior offensive tackle Corey Robinson (6-8, 344), and one of the smallest, sophomore placekicker Elliott Fry (6-0, 165), were both named to Athlon’s third-team All-SEC squad. Robinson, a Havelock, N.C., product has made 22 starts protecting the quarterback’s blindside from the left tackle position. Fry, who hails from Frisco, Texas, garnered Freshman All-SEC recognition last season after connecting on 15-of-18 field goals while pacing the team with 99 points, the fourth-highest single-season total in school history.
Shaq Roland, a 6-1, 176-pound junior wide receiver from Lexington, S.C., was tabbed as a preseason fourth-team All-SEC pick by Athlon magazine. Roland has averaged 17.8 yards per reception over his first two seasons in the Garnet & Black.
