July 21, 2014
CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. – Rising sophomore diver Jordan Gotro qualified for the 2014 AT&T USA Diving National Championships on the one-meter springboard after finishing second with 298.85 points at the Zone B National Preliminaries at the Coral Spring Aquatic Center over the weekend.
Scoring 286.50 to earn a sport in the preliminary finals, Gotro was unable to get to nationals on the three-meter board after a strong showing in qualification, reaching the final in second with 323.65 points. He placed 10th in the final round with 269.55 points.
“Qualifying for U.S. Nationals for the first time is quite an accomplishment coming off of being the Freshman Diver of the Year in the SEC,” head diving coach Todd Sherritt said. “He wasn’t able to get through on the three-meter, missed a couple things, a little inexperience, but we’re happy he’s going through on the one-meter.”
The national championships will take place August 12-17 at the Allen Jones Aquatic Center in Knoxville, Tenn. The men’s one-meter semi-final is slated for 1p.m. on Wednesday, August 13.
