Gamecocks Check in at No. 21 in Both National Polls
Sept. 2, 2014
The University of South Carolina football team checks in at No. 21 in both the Associated Press and Amway Coaches polls announced today. The Gamecocks dropped 12 spots in both polls following a season-opening loss to Texas A&M.
The Gamecocks (0-1, 0-0 SEC) extended their school record of being ranked in the top 25 to 66 consecutive polls. That ties Stanford for the fifth-longest streak in the nation, behind only Alabama, LSU, Oregon and Oklahoma.
Florida State continues to lead both polls, followed by Alabama. Oregon and Oklahoma flip-flop in the three-four slots in the two polls, with Auburn rounding out the top 5.
The Gamecocks will put that national ranking on the line Saturday when they host East Carolina (1-0, 0-0 American Athletic Conference) at Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia. Game time is set for 7 p.m. ET and the game will be televised nationally on ESPNU with Anish Shroff and Kelly Stouffer in the booth and Cara Capuano on the sidelines.
