Buoyed by a 38-35 win over sixth-ranked Georgia, the South Carolina Gamecocks (2-1, 1-1 SEC) climbed several notches in both national polls released today. The Gamecocks rose 10 spots in the Associated Press poll to No. 14 and climbed seven spots in the Amway Coaches’ poll to No. 16.
The Southeastern Conference has an unprecedented seven teams ranked in the top 15 in the country, eight teams ranked for the third-straight week and five teams in the top 10 for the second-straight week in the A.P. poll. The ranked SEC teams according to the writers include Alabama (3), Auburn (5), Texas A&M (6), LSU (8), Ole Miss (10), Georgia (13), South Carolina (14) and Missouri (18). In the Coaches’ poll, the ranked SEC teams include Alabama (2), Auburn (5), Texas A&M (7), LSU (8), Ole Miss (12), Georgia (14), South Carolina (16) and Missouri (19).
Defending national champion Florida State (2-0) continues to lead both polls.
The Gamecocks have been ranked for a school-record 68 consecutive polls, dating back to the second week of the 2010 season. They are tied with Stanford for the fifth-longest current streak in the A.P. Top-25 behind Alabama, LSU, Oregon and Oklahoma.
The Gamecocks will be back in action on Saturday, Sept. 20, when they travel to Nashville to face the Vanderbilt Commodores (1-2, 0-1 SEC). Kick is set for 7:30 p.m. ET (6:30 p.m. CT) and the contest will be televised nationally on the SEC Network with Brent Musburger and Jesse Palmer in the booth and Maria Taylor on the sidelines.
