CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — Senior Meghan Blevins from the South Carolina women’s tennis team won her respective singles flight at the UVa Fall Invite on Sunday at the Snyder Tennis Center in Charlottesville, Va.
Blevins took on Lok Sze Leung from Northwestern in the championship of the Blue Flight and pulled out a three-setter for the victory by scores of 6-4, 4-6, 6-3. With the win, Blevins improved to 9-1 on the spring to lead the Gamecocks and she also extended her unbeaten streak to six matches.
South Carolina won three other singles contests on the day as well. Natalie Looney posted a dominant 6-4, 6-1 win against Jillian Rooney of Northwestern in a consolation match in the Blue Flight. In the Orange Flight, Caroline Dailey won in straight sets over Arkansas’ Makenzie Craft 6-2, 7-6 in the backdraw, and Brigit Folland downed Anna Pomyatinskaya of Marshall 7-5, 6-3 in a consolation match.
The Gamecocks split a pair of third-place contests in the two doubles draws. Blevins and Folland posted an 8-5 win over Barnett/Doshi from Northwestern in the Orange Flight, while Dailey and Looney fell by an 8-3 score to Chatt/Rischbieth of Northwestern in the Blue Flight.
South Carolina will return to action starting Thursday when it participates in the USTA/ITA Carolina Regional Championships in Chapel Hill, N.C.
