University of South Carolina quarterback Dylan Thompson and wide receiver Damiere Byrd headline the 2014 Capital One Academic All-District 4 Football Team, announced today.
Thompson, a 6-3, 218-pound senior from Boiling Springs, S.C., is having a record-setting season for the Gamecocks, while sporting a 3.42 GPA in sport & entertainment management. Thompson is second in the SEC in passing yards per game at 287.6 and in touchdown passes with 22. He is on pace to break both single-season marks in school history.
Byrd, a 5-9, 170-pound senior from Sicklerville, N.J. boasts a 3.40 GPA in sport & entertainment management. The speedy wideout has caught a dozen passes this season for 185 yards, an average of 15.4 yards per catch, with a pair of touchdowns. This is the third time that Byrd has been recognized as an Academic All-District selection.
The Capital One Academic All-District football teams recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. First-team Academic All-District honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
