LEXINGTON, KY. – The Gamecocks closed out the SEC Championships Saturday afternoon with a strong effort, highlighted by Jermaine Collier’s third-place finish in the men’s 60m hurdles. The team would see 11 athletes score for Carolina in the team standings, nine for the men and two for the women.

The morning began on a high note as Markus Leemet completed a solid heptathlon with a fourth-place finish. The first-year athlete set season bests in five of seven events. His 5,459 points are second-most in program history and best since 2004. It puts him in the top 15 nationally when compared to scores entering the weekend.

Collier then followed that up with his first career indoor medal, finishing third in the 60 hurdles. He was followed closely by Jussi Kanervo in sixth and Isaiah Moore in seventh, and the three Gamecocks earned 11 total points in the team scoring from the event.

In the sprints, Kendall Kee ran a season-best time of 6.69 in the men’s 60, taking fourth place overall. He missed making the podium by seven hundredths of a second. After qualifying with the third-best time of the day Friday for the 200, Ncincilili Titi finished fifth in the finals, coming a tenth of a second from medaling. For the women, Briana Haith made it back-to-back races with a personal record, and finished fifth in the women’s 400. Her time if 53.13 is the fastest in the event for Carolina this season.

Rounding out the scoring by individuals, Josh Awotunde came in seventh with a throw of 18.08 meters (59 feet, four inches).

Relays closed out the final day of competition with the women competing in the distance medley and 4×400 relays and the men competing in the 4×400. The women did not complete the DMR and finished ninth overall in the 4×400. The men’s quartet of Clayton Gravesande, Ryan Bermudez, Jussi Kanervo and Dondre Echols finished fifth to score for the team. Their time of 3:09.26 is the fastest of the season.

In the overall team score, the men finished 10th with 31 points and the women placed 14th with nine. Florida earned the men’s team title, and Arkansas won the women’s.
