Head Coach Chad Holbrook
It was nice to see us offensively hit a few balls on the screws and look a little bit more offensive than we have looked the last several games. I think this is one of the first games all year that we have had three players with multiple hit games in the same game. We put some hits together today. Gene (Cone) had some really good at-bats and has been having good at-bats. We will be a pretty good offensive team if Kyle Martin and Max Schrock swing the bat. I have said that from the get-go and that is what I believe and feel. Those guys swung the bat today and it was good to see Max get going a little bit and then (Alex) Destino gave us a little bit of a cushion with the big homerun. From a pitching standpoint, a couple guys did some good things. I thought Fiori was about as sharp as he has been in a long time. He threw strikes in all his pitches and had a great line. We were not perfect by any stretch, we are still trying figure out who we are.
On hitting improvement
These past couple games I have really been trying to be aggressive. I think that was a part of my problem in the beginning of the year, that I was not being aggressive with pitches I needed to be aggressive with. Sometimes that pitch is the first or second pitch and you may only see one or two good pitches in an at-bat. If you let it go by you are going to struggle. That was a priority for me today, was just to be aggressive early in the count.
On the grand slam
It was a fastball that I hit out. I went in knowing that he was trying to mix in a really good down hill playing slider; having that in the back of my mind and with the way he was approaching me, throwing more of a fast ball/changeup mix, I was expecting him to keep hounding the zone low with that. He did make a mistake and left it pretty high up and I put a pretty good swing on it for where it was.
