Recap | Box Score

South Carolina Head Coach Chad Holbrook
Opening Statement
I think we were able to win all three games because of the way our pitchers threw. Clarke (Schmidt) got us off to a good start today, Vince (Fiori) was pretty clean and Taylor (Widener) showed what kind of arm he has at the end of the game. I’m not at all happy with how we’re swinging the bat right now offensively. We have good hitters in our dugout and we have good hitters on our team, but right now we’re just in a bit of a funk. We’re going to work hard this week to get out of it. We had to play some guys because we’ve got some guys banged up. Marcus (Mooney) tweaked his hamstring yesterday and DC’s (Arendas) thumb is very sore; it’s been a lingering issue with him, so that kind of affected the line-up today. We didn’t play great defense, but we pitched our rear-ends off and that was good enough to win. I’m not going to complain too much, we won three games this weekend against a solid club, but we have to do better. We’ll work hard this week to try to get on the right path.

On Vince Fiori
His last three or four outings have been very good. His command has actually gotten better. A couple of times this year, we took him out after a hitter or so because he walked him. He is been very clean with his command, with exception to a couple of pitches today. He’s been a big shot in the arm for us, especially with (Cody) Mincey being out. He gave us some quality bullpen appearances and we feel good about him in any situation. His change-up is difficult to hit and he threw it in some tight spots today. Vince has been a big part of why we’re 12-3 and it could easily been a lot worse if we hadn’t pitched well. Vince has done as well as could’ve possibly asked out of the bullpen.

Junior Left-Handed Pitcher Vince Fiori
On pitching an extended outing
I started the whole fall and spring scrimmages, so I am always ready for an extended outing. What I was thinking when I came in with the bases loaded was to try to throw strikes, keep it down and let the infield do their job and get a couple outs, unfortunately one slipped out of my hand but we ended up getting through it.

On importance of five straight wins after loss to Clemson
It is really important to get these wins under our belt especially with the quality opponents that are coming this weekend and into SEC play.

Sophomore Infielder Jordan Gore
On the offense
The offense is going to come. We are good hitters. We will be alright.

On the defense
I think (our) defense is going to be fine. Coach harps on (about) pitching and defense and I think we have been doing well.
