Box Score

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – No. 23/23 Texas A&M (24-7, 6-3 SEC) gained a 5-2 win in Sunday’s second game over South Carolina (21-12, 2-7 SEC) behind a three-RBI day by catcher Ashley Walters.

The first Aggie run came in the first on Tori Vidales’ two-out homer to left. Three more Texas A&M runs scored with two outs in the third on a two-RBI double by Walters and April Ryan’s single to left.

South Carolina cut the lead in half with senior catcher Sarah Mooney’s two-run blast in the fourth, her fifth of the season. Texas A&M turned a leadoff walk into a run in the fifth on Walters’ sac fly to left to make it 5-2.

Former Gamecock Katie Marks (8-1) picked up the win over her former teammates, going four innings, allowing two earned runs on four hits and three walks in four innings. Rachel Fox picked up her second save of the year with three shutout innings of relief, fanning four. Sarratt (9-7) took the loss in her second complete game of the day, giving up five earned runs on six hits and four walks.

Game Changer:
The three-run third put the Aggies on top for good, and the entry of Fox into the game in the fifth slowed down the Gamecocks’ offense.

Key Stat:
Walters drove in three of Texas A&M’s five runs in a 1-for-2 day, getting a double with her lone hit.

Notables:
• Alaynie Page tripled and Mooney homered for South Carolina, the fifth of each for both.
• The only Gamecock to record two hits was sophomore first baseman Kaylea Snaer, who went 2-for-4.
• April Ryan went 2-for-3 with an RBI for the Aggies.
• South Carolina left nine runners on base in the loss.

Up Next:
The Gamecocks step out of SEC action for their next five games, hosting Furman and North Florida on Wednesday and Thursday, respectively. Wednesday’s single game against the Paladins starts at 6 p.m. EDT at Carolina Softball Stadium at Beckham Field.
