Jerell Adams Named to Mackey Watch List
July 8, 2015
COLUMBIA, S.C. – The preseason watch list for the 2015 John Mackey Award was released Wednesday morning, with senior Jerell Adams making the grade. He is one of 33 athletes to be included on the list, and joins Pharoh Cooper (Hornung, Maxwell) as Gamecocks who have been recognized already for national awards.
The Mackey Award is given annually to the most outstanding collegiate tight end, and is named after NFL Hall of Fame member John Mackey. The award has been presented since 2000.
Adams had a career year in 2014, setting new personal bests in every major category along with five starts and action in all 13 games. The Pinewood, S.C. native caught 21 passes for 279 yards for the season, including 17 for 220 yards in the final six games as the team’s primary tight end. A towering presence at six-feet, six-inches tall, Adams has been recognized as the team’s most improved tight end for each of the last two seasons and will provide a veteran presence in 2015.
The team will kick off the 2015 season in less than two months, with a game against North Carolina on Sept. 3 in Charlotte, N.C. that will also air on ESPN.
