COLUMBIA, S.C. — The South Carolina men’s golf program released its 2015-16 schedule on Monday.
The Gamecocks have five tournaments on the schedule for the fall and five in the spring and will look to build upon the record-breaking success from a year ago. Under the direction head coach Bill McDonald, who is the program’s winningest coach by tournament victories, Carolina turned in one of the greatest seasons in program history, winning a school-record five tournament titles, recording a school-record 10 top-five finishes and shattering the school record for team scoring average in a season by more than four strokes (282.85). The Gamecocks finished the year ranked No. 6 in the Golfweek/Sagarin Rankings and No. 7 in the Golfstat Relative Rankings.
Carolina is set to open its 2015-16 season at the Carpet Capital Collegiate on Sept. 11-13 at The Farm Golf Club in Rocky Face, Ga. The Gamecocks are the defending champions after winning their first Carpet Capital Collegiate title last season.
Following a two-week break, the Gamecocks will be back in action at the Shoal Creek Invitational on Sept. 28-29 at Shoal Creek Country Club in Birmingham, Ala. Carolina will then head to Orlando, Fla., for the Tavistock Collegiate Invitational on Oct. 18-20 at Isleworth Golf and Country Club.
The Gamecocks will host the Camden Collegiate Invitational Oct. 24-25 at Camden Country Club in Camden, S.C. Carolina came back to win the tournament last season.
Carolina will wrap up its fall schedule in Hawaii as it will tee it up at the Ka’anapali Collegiate Invitational on Nov. 6-8 at the Royal Ka’anapali Course in Lahaina, Hawaii.
For the fourth-straight year, the Gamecocks will open their spring slate at the Bayou City Collegiate Championship on Feb. 19-21 at the Golf Club of Houston in Humble, Texas. Carolina is the defending champion after winning the title a year ago by two strokes with a total of 850 (-14).
The Gamecocks will play in three tournaments in March. Carolina will defend its Palmetto Intercollegiate title on March 7-8 at the historic Palmetto Golf Club in Aiken, S.C. The Gamecocks will then wrap up their spring break swing with a trip to the General Hackler Championship on March 12-13 at Dunes Golf and Beach Club in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Carolina will close out the month at the Valspar Collegiate Invitational on March 21-22 at the Floridian in Palm City, Fla.
Carolina wraps up its regular-season slate on April 3-5 at the Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate at Bulls Bay Golf Club in Awendaw, S.C. The Gamecocks captured the Hootie title last season by 11 strokes, their school-record fifth tournament title of the year.
The Gamecocks will play at the SEC Championship on April 15-17 at Sea Island Golf Club in St. Simons Island, Ga. NCAA Regionals are schedule for May 16-18, while the NCAA Championship will be held May 27-June 1 at Eugene Country Club in Eugene, Ore.
