Aug. 20, 2015 COLUMBIA, S.C. ââ’¬” University of South Carolina Athletics announced today the recipients of eight endowed scholarships across four sports. Seven members of the group have appeared on the SEC Academic Honor Roll, two have earned All-SEC honors and two were All-America selections. Recipients for endowed scholarships are selected each year by the sport’s head coach.

“These endowed scholarships represent a special commitment by members of the Gamecock Club,” South Carolina Athletics Director Ray Tanner said. “While the generosity of all members allows us to provide a world-class education for hundreds of student-athletes each year, these gifts ensure that some of those resources can go toward other initiatives that enhance the student-athlete experience at the University of South Carolina.”

Scolamiero is a sophomore outfielder who started 13 games as a freshman and was named to the SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll. This summer he was named a Coastal Plain League All-Star. Junior right-handed pitcher Crowe was the Gamecocks’ Friday night starter last season, but saw his sophomore season cut short due to injury. He remained vigilant in the classroom, earning spots on the SEC Academic Honor Roll and Dean’s List. Arendas enters his senior season with 98 career starts and three appearances on the SEC Academic Honor Roll.

Mitchell is the inaugural recipient of The Aleighsa Welch Endowed Women’s Basketball Scholarship, which was created by Morris and Sheila Cregger last spring. Mitchell became the first Gamecock to be named a finalist for all three premier national player of the year awards, getting tapped by the Naismith Trophy, Wade Trophy and Wooden Award committees in 2015. She is the two-time SEC Player of the Year, earned All-America status from five different sources and was a Capital One Academic All-District selection last season.

Shell is a fifth-year senior and the most experienced offensive lineman on this year’s team. The two-time SEC Academic Honor Roll member also earned preseason All-SEC honors the last two seasons. Orth earned a share of the Most Improved Quarterback award last spring and is in contention for signal-caller duties this fall. Adams is a two-time member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll and earned the 2015 Dr. Harris Pastides Outstanding Student-Athlete Representative last spring. He has six starts in his career and owns 38 career receptions for 556 yards.

Dambaugh is a two-time All-SEC selection who earned honorable mention All-America honors last spring after capturing three top-five finishes and carrying the team’s second-lowest scoring average of the season (73.66). Her 65 on the second day of the 2015 SEC Championship was a school and tournament record and helped her into a tie for fourth place in the event. She has appeared on the SEC Academic Honor Roll twice.
