South Carolina, North Carolina in Charlotte ‘a win for everybody’ (Spurs & Feathers, By Brian Hand)
COLUMBIA, S.C. – The University of South Carolina and University of North Carolina will renew their border war twice more in the coming years, as the teams agreed to play in Charlotte’s Bank of America Stadium on Labor Day weekend in both 2019 and 2023, it was announced today by the Charlotte Sports Foundation (CSF).
“On the eve of this year’s matchup, we are delighted to announce two more games are scheduled for the future,” said South Carolina Athletics Director Ray Tanner. “This is a great game for the student-athletes and fans at each school to kick off the football season.”
“We are extremely excited to announce that these great games will be played in Charlotte,” said Will Webb, Executive Director of the Charlotte Sports Foundation. “This is a tremendous rivalry that will be played in one of the best stadiums in the United States.
“This also adds great value for ticket purchasers for the 2015 Belk College Kickoff Game on Thursday,” he added. “Fans who purchase tickets to see UNC vs. USC this year will be given early access to purchase tickets for all of the future college games organized by the Charlotte Sports Foundation.”
The Gamecocks and Tar Heels will meet in the Belk College Kickoff Classic in Charlotte on Thursday night. Game time is set for 6 p.m. and the game will be televised nationally on ESPN. Tickets are still on sale for the contest and can be purchased at BelkCollegeKickoff.com or through TicketMaster.
North Carolina leads the all-time series, 34-18-4, but the Gamecocks have won five of the last six meetings between the two schools in a series that dates back to 1903.
