Sept. 15, 2015

COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina women’s tennis begins its fall campaign this weekend with a pair of entries in the ITA Preseason Rankings. The doubles tandem of junior Caroline Dailey and sophomore Hadley Berg are No. 12 in the nation, while Dailey comes in at No. 85 in singles.

Berg and Dailey received a final ranking of No. 33 at the end of the 2015 season after going 12-6, including 10-6 in dual matches. They stepped into the No. 1 position in the Gamecocks’ lineup in March and went 7-6 with a win over a 20th-ranked tandem from Georgia.

The No. 12 doubles ranking for the duo of Dailey and Berg is the highest preseason ranking in doubles or singles at South Carolina since 2001-02 when the team tandem of junior Kathy Boyanovich and senior Jennifer Radman were ranked No. 8 to start the season.

Dailey was ranked as high as No. 119 in singles last year after finishing 23-19 and 13-11 in dual matches. She finished the season with wins in five of her last six matches, including a win in the SEC Tournament and a pair of wins in the NCAA Tournament.

Daily and Berg will look to set the tone for a young roster, which has three sophomores and five freshmen. The Gamecocks return six letterwinners from last year’s squad, which advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the 21st-consecutive time and finished the season ranked No. 29 in the nation.

The team will begin its 2015-16 season at the Tribe Invitational hosted by William & Mary Sept. 18-20 in Williamsburg, Va.
