COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina women’s tennis will host the South Carolina Fall Invitational this weekend, Oct. 2-4, at the USC Field House located adjacent to Eugene E. Stone III Stadium. Eight Gamecocks are set to compete in a field that includes Arkansas, Oklahoma, North Florida, UNC Wilmington and William & Mary. Two doubles flights will be played on Friday, while four singles flights get underway Saturday and run through Sunday. Start times are set for 9 a.m. each day.

The event marks the first fall tournament hosted by South Carolina since the Southern Intercollegiate Championships in 2007. All six teams in this weekend’s field made the NCAA Tournament last year with four of the six finishing in the top 50 of the 2015 ITA Final Rankings.

“We have some great teams coming to Columbia this weekend,” head coach Kevin Epley said. “It’s a fantastic opportunity for us to face some high-caliber opponents right here on our home courts. We are fresh off a competitive weekend at Furman and have been working hard this week to inch forward with our games and continue to improve.”

South Carolina comes off a strong showing at the Furman Invitational in which sophomore Hadley Berg advanced to the championship round of her flight before the event was cut short due to weather. She is 5-0 on the season with wins over opponents from Vanderbilt, Florida State, Dartmouth, Maryland and West Virginia. The doubles tandem of freshmen Ingrid Gamarra Martins and Ellie Zogg captured the title in their doubles flight, defeating fellow Gamecocks Paige Cline and Brigit Folland in the finals.

Admission is free for the event. For tournament updates, stay tuned to www.GamecocksOnline.com or follow the team on Twitter (@GamecockWTennis).
