DURHAM, N.C. –
South Carolina women’s tennis freshman Paige Cline defeated No. 69 Samantha Harris of Duke on Sunday, 7-5, 6-4, to post a perfect 3-0 record at the Kitty Harrison Invitational on her way to being named the No. 2 singles player at the event.

Cline, one of four Gamecocks competing at the event, picked up wins over Georgia Southern’s Mariana Ranzahuer and Texas’ Neda Koprcina prior to her win over Harris. With the win, the California native is now 8-3 this fall with wins in seven of her last eight matches.

Freshmen Hannah Templeton and Ellie Zogg and sophomore Alison Mills all fell to their opponents from Duke on Sunday. Templeton and Mills each finished the weekend 1-2 with wins on Friday over opponents from Georgia Southern. Zogg went 1-1 with a win Saturday over Chelsea Crovetti of Texas.

The Gamecocks enter the offseason before returning to the court Sun., Jan. 17, for a doubleheader against Furman and South Alabama at the Carolina Tennis Center. For team updates, visit www.GamecocksOnline.com or follow the team on Twitter (@GamecockWTennis).

QUOTABLE
Assistant Coach Jeff Nevolo
“Overall the girls that played the tournament did a nice job competing against some very tough competition. They each had their impressive moments and found some areas to continue to improve. It was great to see Paige have success this weekend. She got better with each match and didn’t flinch when the pressure was on. Today, going up against a highly ranked player, she managed her emotions very well and got better as the match went on.”
