The University of South Carolina Board of Trustees has approved Phase 1 on the construction of a new Football Operations Facility, it was announced today.

“We have completed a feasibility study to construct a premier Football Operations Facility adjacent to the recently completed indoor practice facility and the practice fields,” said Athletics Director Ray Tanner. “I am appreciative to the Board of Trustees who share my thoughts that the Football Operations Facility is an important part of the future of our football program.”

The more than 100,000 square foot facility, estimated at $50 million, will house the football offices, meeting rooms, weight room, training room, locker room and equipment room. It will be located just south of the indoor practice facility at the west end of Gamecock Park. The Football Operations Facility will be designed in collaboration with the Athletics Department and the football coaching staff. The architectural design will reflect the spirit of Gamecock Athletics and will complement the recent improvements at Gamecock Park and Williams-Brice Stadium.

“I am excited to hear that the Football Operations Facility has received Phase 1 approval,” said head football coach Will Muschamp. “From everything that I have seen and heard about the facility, it will be state-of-the-art with the latest in amenities for our football team, coaches and staff. This is a critical component to moving our football program forward,” continued Muschamp. “Coupled with the indoor football practice facility, the outdoor practice fields and now, the operations facility, this will be the finest football complex in the nation.”

The USC Board of Trustees also agreed Tuesday to name the indoor football practice facility the Jerri and Steve Spurrier Indoor Practice Facility.
