BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – University of South Carolina freshman Allyson Nied has been named Southeastern Conference Women’s Diver of the Week, the league office announced today. The weekly honor is the first of Nied’s collegiate career.

Nied won the platform competition on Jan. 15 in Atlanta against host Georgia Tech, Duke and Michigan. The freshman posted a score of 245.45 to win the meet by 9.80 points. It’s her first collegiate event victory.

Nied’s best dive on Jan. 15 was a Forward 3 1/2 Somersault Pike that was scored an even 60.00. Teammate Mikaela Lujan placed third at the event, and Marissa Roth took seventh.

NOTABLE

  • Nied is the third Gamecock to win SEC Diver of the Week honors in 2015-16. Both Jordan Gotro (men’s) and Julia Vincent (women’s) were the conference’s top divers on Oct. 27, 2015.

UP NEXT FOR CAROLINA

Both full Gamecock squads are back at the Carolina Natatorium Jan. 22-23, when they host UNC Wilmington, Queens and Wingate in a quad meet. Friday’s action starts at 4 p.m. and Saturday’s conclusion starts at 10 a.m. Prior to the meet, the Gamecocks will honor their seven seniors ahead of their final home competition.
