SEA ISLAND, Ga. — University of South Carolina senior Matt NeSmith finished tied for second place at the 2016 Jones Cup Invitational, which wrapped up Sunday at Ocean Forest Golf Club. NeSmith fired a 1-over 73 on Sunday to finish the three-round event at 220 (+4).
NeSmith closed strong, with two birdies on his final five holes to secure the podium spot. The Gamecock veteran finished six strokes behind tournament winner Beau Hossler of Texas.
Carolina freshman Scott Stevens finished tied for 25th with a three-day score of 229 (+13). Stevens shot a 76 (+4) on Sunday, including a birdie on the 18th hole.
Senior Will Starke placed in a tie for 35th with a final score of 231 (+15). Starke shot an 80 (+8) on Sunday, including a birdie on the 415-yard 8th hole.
Carolina’s Keenan Huskey climbed four spots on Sunday and tied for 67th. His final round 78 (+6) included one birdie and gave him a three-round total of 240(+24).

South Carolina student-athletes Alex Handy, Will Miles and Ryan Stachler will compete as individuals at the Savannah Quarters Individual Intercollegiate, which begins Monday. After that, the full Carolina team opens the spring season Feb. 19-21 at the All-American Intercollegiate in Humble, Texas.
