COLUMBIA, S.C. – Freshman Ingrid Gamarra Martins and the doubles tandem of sophomore Hadley Berg and freshman Paige Cline climbed in this week’s ITA Rankings. Martins rose 12 spots to No. 63 in the individual rankings, while Berg and Cline shot up 10 spots to No. 24 in doubles. Junior Caroline Dailey also remains ranked this week at No. 83.
A native of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Martins has provided a consistent threat in the top half of the lineup. The two-time SEC Freshman of the Week has won three of her last four matches, including a pair against ranked opponents, on her way to a 13-5 dual-match record and 5-3 SEC mark at No. 2 singles. Dailey has been tough at the No. 1 position of the singles lineup with wins over the nation’s No. 11 and No. 24 players this spring.
Berg and Cline, competing as a wildcard entry later today in the WTA’s Volvo Car Open, have been key at No. 1 doubles for the Gamecocks this season, amassing an 11-2 overall mark, including a 6-2 record in the SEC that helped Carolina start 6-0 in league play for the first time in program history. Berg and Cline have both received individual honors from the SEC this season with Berg winning Player of the Week on March 23 and Cline taking home Freshman of the Week honors on March 9.
South Carolina came in at No. 10 this week, its fourth consecutive top-10 ranking. The Gamecocks are currently tied for third in the SEC at 7-2, 15-4 overall. South Carolina closes out its regular season with back-to-back SEC road weekends.
