The University of South Carolina football team made a change to its routine on Thursday as it held practice number 13 of the spring in the Jerri and Steve Spurrier Indoor Facility.

Former Tulane, North Carolina and Texas head coach Mack Brown watched the practice and spoke to the team following the workout. Coach Brown will serve as the analyst for SEC Network in covering Saturday’s spring game.

“Three of the best years of my life were at the University of Texas, coaching there for him and working for him,” said head coach Will Muschamp. “He and I have stayed in touch. He’s going to call our game on Saturday. He took over at Tulane, took over at North Carolina and took over at Texas and built every one of those programs to great success. That was his message – about coming into a new situation, adapting to a new staff and some of the things that he went through. He did a fantastic job, as he always does.”

Coach Muschamp confirmed that quarterback Lorenzo Nuñez would not be available to participate in Saturday’s contest. “He’s come out and thrown a good bit in some pre-practice stuff, but has not been cleared to run around,” noted Coach Muschamp. “He’s moving around pretty good on it and is throwing the ball well. The quarterbacks won’t be ‘live’ Saturday, but regardless, we’re not going to put him out there.”

Coach Muschamp is looking forward to his first Garnet & Black Spring Game. “We’re going to roll offense versus defense, good on good,” said Coach Muschamp. “It’s a great evaluation for us. We’re really looking forward to it. It’s the first impression of our football team in front of our fans in our stadium. Anytime you step between the white lines its really, really important.”

The annual Garnet & Black Spring game will take place in Williams-Brice Stadium on Saturday, April 9, beginning at noon. The game will be televised live on SEC Network with Bob Wischusen and Mack Brown in the booth and Shannon Spake working the sidelines. With several recruits expected to attend, Coach Muschamp is hoping for a strong attendance from Gamecock Nation. Prior to the spring game, Carolina football alumni will take part in a flag football game, beginning at approximately 11 am at Williams-Brice Stadium.
