COLUMBIA, S.C. ââ’¬” The NCAA Division I Women’s Golf Selection Show is set to air on Mon., April 25 at 6 p.m. ET on Golf Channel.
The 72-team field will be revealed during Golf Central, which will announce the 18 participants at each of the four sites for the NCAA Regionals (May 5-7). This year’s sites are Stanford, Calif. (Stanford Golf Course), Bryan, Texas (Texas Traditions Club), Baton Rouge, La. (University Club) and Shoal Creek, Ala. (Shoal Creek Club).
No. 24 South Carolina, which has captured three regional titles under head coach Kalen Anderson, will be making its 18th-straight appearance at the NCAA Regionals. The Gamecocks claimed the 2015 East Regional last season at the Lonnie Poole Golf Course in Raleigh, N.C., and they topped the field at the 2010 and 2012 NCAA Regionals. Junior Katelyn Dambaugh and senior Sarah Schmelzel, top-15 finishers at the 54-hole event last year, head into next month’s tournament as two of South Carolina’s three golfers with NCAA postseason experience.
Led by Dambaugh, the Gamecocks climbed up the leaderboard to finish fifth at the SEC Championship this past weekend. The Goose Creek, S.C., native fired a tournament-best 66 (-6) in the final round to earn runner-up honors with a final score of 209 (-7), while sophomore Ainhoa Olarra placed eighth (217, +1) in her postseason debut. South Carolina closed the regular season with a second-place showing at the Bryan National Collegiate (Apr. 1-3), one of two runner-up finishes for the Gamecocks this spring.
