2016 NCAA Women’s Golf Postseason Field

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The South Carolina women’s golf team earned its 18^th-straight NCAA postseason berth on Monday night, as it was selected to the Baton Rouge Regional set for May 5-7 in Baton Rouge, La. The No. 24 Gamecocks, which received the six seed in their regional, joined the 72-team field that was divided among four sites during the 30-minute broadcast special which aired on Golf Channel.

Duke will head into the 54-hole event as the top seed in the Baton Rouge Regional, while Florida, Arizona State, Washington and Oregon round out the top five. South Carolina is one of 10 SEC teams to qualify for the regionals, and the Gamecocks will face two conference foes next month, as the Gators and 12^th-seeded LSU will be in action at University Club. Six teams currently ranked in Golfstat’s Top-25 will compete at the regional, including three top-10 programs (No. 4 Duke, No. 5 Florida, No. 10 Arizona State). The top six teams at each regional site will advance to the NCAA Championships, set for May 20-25 at the Eugene Country Club in Eugene, Ore.

This season will mark South Carolina’s 23^rd overall NCAA Regional appearance and the seventh time it has qualified for the postseason under head coach Kalen Anderson. Anderson led the Gamecocks to the East Regional Title in just her second season as head coach in 2010 before guiding them to the 2012 title and the top spot at the three-day event last season. South Carolina has qualified for the NCAA Championships 15 times, including each of the last six seasons.

The Gamecocks will enter the NCAA postseason following a strong spring season that produced two runner-up finishes and a fifth-place showing at the SEC Championship earlier this month. Junior Katelyn Dambaugh, who ranks 12^th in Division I in stroke average (71.89), finished second at the league tournament, while senior Sarah Schmelzel closed the regular season with medalist honors at the Bryan National Collegiate (April 1-3). Both golfers notched top-15 finishes at the 2015 NCAA East Regional.
